Clovis Gregor Wins District 5 City Council Seat In Pawtucket
The Democrat ran unopposed in Tuesday's special election to fill the unexpired term of Ama Amponsah, who died in April.

PAWTUCKET, RI — Clovis Gregor has won Tuesday's special election to fill the vacant District 5 seat on the Pawtucket City Council.
Gregor, 56, a local lawyer in private practice, gained 214 votes. Nine write-in votes were cast. There are 5,760 registered voters in District 5, meaning turnout stood at 3.89 percent, said Ken McGill, the city registrar.
Gregor in June defeated Ana P. Soares in a special Democratic primary to fill the west side seat left open in April with the untimely death of District 5 Councilor Ama Amponsah. Amponsah, owner of Ama’s Variety and Mini Mart, a staple in the community since the 1980s, had held the seat since 2020. Before Amponsah, the seat was held by Meghan Kallman, who in 2020 became a member of the Rhode Island State Senate.
