Lawyer Clovis Gregor Wins Primary For Pawtucket City Council Seat

Gregor prevailed over Ana Soares in the special Democratic primary to replace former Councilor Ama Amponsah, who died in April.

PAWTUCKET, RI — Clovis C. Gregor has defeated Ana P. Soares in Tuesday's special Democratic primary to fill a vacant District 5 seat on the Pawtucket City Council.

Unofficial results show Gregor with 209 votes compared to 163 for Soares. Only 5.4 percent of Pawtucket's 6,771 registered voters cast ballots, according to the Rhode Island Board of Elections.

Gegor, 56, a local lawyer, won the endorsement of the Democratic 5th Ward Committee. He is a native of Senegal and lives at 118 Trenton St. with his family.

Soares, of 234 Sayles Ave., is a native of Angola and director of operations at the Learning Community Charter School. She is a longtime resident of Pawtucket.

Gregor will now advance to a July 6 election. There was no Republican primary. Gregor will have a challenger if there is a write-in candidate, the Pawtucket City Clerk's office said.
