Pawtucket Man Accused Of Rear-Ending State Police Cruiser

A trooper was stopped on I-95 investigating a crash when his cruiser was struck by a Toyota, Rhode Island State Police said.

A Pawtucket man is accused of crashing his Toyota into a Rhode Island State Police cruiser on Interstate 95 and then trying to leave the scene.

The collision happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the Route 146 northbound merge in Providence. According to state police, a trooper was sitting in his cruiser investigating a separate crash when a gray Toyota rear-ended the police car. The driver of the Toyota then allegedly struck the cruiser again while attempting to flee.

Maksim Gorbachev, 36 of Pawtucket, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving under the influence, driving to endanger resulting in physical injury, leaving the scene of an accident, and refusing a chemical test. He was booked at the state police barracks in Lincoln.

The trooper was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and later released.
