Prosecutors said Fitton arranged to meet the supposed teenager at a location in Providence. Fitton arrived at the meeting place and was arrested by members of the state police task force. Police said a search of his cell phone yielded incriminating evidence.

Appearing before U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., Fitton pleaded guilty to attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor, announced Acting United States Attorney Richard B. Myrus.

A plea agreement recommends that Fitton be sentenced to a 24-month term in federal prison. He will remain in custody until his sentencing on Aug. 18.
