Pawtucket Police Investigate Deadly Shooting Near Central Avenue

A Massachusetts man, 29, was found shot inside a car that was stopped on George Bennet Industrial Highway before dawn on June 26.

PAWTUCKET, RI — A man was shot and killed early Saturday and Pawtucket police are conducting a homicide investigation.

Det. Sgt. Theodore Georgitsis said at around 4:45 a.m. police were headed to 413 Central Ave. for a report of shots fired when they saw a car stopped on George Bennet Industrial Highway between Central Avenue and Armistice Boulevard. Inside the car was a driver and a male passenger, 29, from Massachusetts. The passenger had been shot. He was taken to Rhode Island hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Pawtucket detectives and the Rhode Island Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) were notified and responded to both locations, Georgitsis said. The homicide investigation is ongoing.

Police did not say what happened to the driver of the car found stopped on the roadway.
