Pawtucket Police Officer Who Shot Man Placed On Leave

An off-duty Pawtucket police officer shot a man, 18, in West Greenwich on Wednesday night. The R.I. Attorney General is investigating.

PAWTUCKET, RI — A Pawtucket police officer who shot a man in West Greenwich while off-duty has been placed on administrative leave. The officer's name has not been released by Pawtucket city officials.

The officer shot and injured an 18-year-old man in his car in on Nooseneck Hill Road in West Greenwich Wednesday night, according to West Greenwich Police Chief Richard Ramsay.

Acting Pawtucket Public Safety Director Chief Tina Goncalves issued a statement today. She said the officer notified the Pawtucket Police Department at around 8 p.m. Wednesday that he had been involved in a shooting in West Greenwich.

"There is a protocol in place with all officer-involved shootings that the investigation is handled by the Office of the Attorney General, the State Police, and the local jurisdiction where the incident occurred," Goncalves said. "The Pawtucket Police Department is waiting for further information on the investigation. Pending that, the officer has been placed on administrative leave."
