TIVERTON, RI — The number of customers allowed in Rhode Island's "essential" retailers — grocery stores, pharmacies and more —has been limited to 20 percent of the building's fire code capacity. Tiverton police posted a list of the maximum number of customers allowed in the town's stores at one time.

Below are listed the maximum number of shoppers for several stores in Tiverton. The numbers are for shoppers only and do not apply to store employees, Tiverton police said.

  • Tom's Market, 492 Main Road: 17
  • CVS, 500 Main Road: 29
  • Dollar General, 567 Main Road: 19
  • Walgreens, 677 Main Road: 23
  • Dollar General, 1185 Stafford Road: 22

These limits will be individually enforced by store management, police said, with some larger stores stationing employees at entrances to count shoppers. Both the police are fire department wills work with stores to make sure these limits can be enforced.
