TIVERTON, RI — Tiverton's Essex Memorial Library is taking on a new life as a unique vacation rental. The stone-facade building, featuring large windows and plenty of built-in bookshelves, was acquired by The Landmark trust USA, a nonprofit aimed at preserving local history.

The organization manages six properties across New England, which preserves vacant, threatened or underutilized facilities by turning them into short-term vacation rentals.

The library was built in 1938 as part of a private bequest to the town. When the new library opened in 2015, the building was put up for sale and reuse. It was purchased by Vermont resident Richard Epstein, who leased it to the Landmark Trust.
