Little Compton Man Arrested In Seekonk Break-In

SEEKONK, Mass. -- A Little Compton man was arrested in the early hours of Monday following a break-in at a Seekonk business. Luther Parente, 35, is facing charges of breaking and entering, along with charges from a previous robbery.

According to Seekonk Police, the alarm went off in Tony's Seafood on Fall River Avenue early Monday morning. Officers quickly discovered signs of a break-in, including a broken door in the back, a cinder block that had been thrown through a front window and damage to the cash register.

A witness at the scene reported hearing what sounded like people running through the nearby woods just before police arrived on scene. Officers along with K9 Mattis began pursuing the suspects, eventually arriving at Mary's Motor Lodge at 1159 Fall River Ave. Using surveillance footage, officers were able to confirm that the two suspects had run to the hotel following the break-in, but the suspects were not in their room at the time.

Seekonk Police reports that two detectives patrolling the area reported seeing a "suspicious male party" who ran into the woods after seeing the officers several hours later. Several units were called to the area and the K9 officer and K9 Mattis were able to flush the suspect, who was later identified as Parente, out of the woods.

Parente was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and several other charges. At the time of the break-in, he was also wanted as a fugitive of justice on previous charges of second-degree robbery. He will be arraigned in Taunton District Court.
