LITTLE COMPTON, RI — Just in time for Shark Week, a stranded shark was rescued off the coast of Little Compton this weekend.

The shark was reported to the Department of Environmental Management's Division of Law Enforcement Saturday morning. An environmental police rescue swimmer and patrol boat were sent to the area and guided the shark away from the rocky shore and into deeper water, "where it will have a much better chance of survival," the department said.

Similar issues or violations can be reported to the department's 24-hour dispatch line at 401-222-3070.
