School officials said all instrument readings for potentially harmful gases were negative.

Tiverton police and fire investigated and found no evidence of harmful gases in the school, but the school was dismissed early out of an abundance of caution.

A spokesperson at the Tiverton superintendent's office said the evacuation began around 9 a.m.

In a tweet, school district officials said the odor was reported near the school's cafeteria, and that all readings for harmful gases conducted by the Tiverton Fire Department were negative. No other schools will be dismissed early on Friday.
