A Tiverton cat named Whiskey had to undergo emergency surgery after she swallowed thread earlier this month.

The thread was tied around her tongue and clumped in her intestines.

Whiskey’s intestines were folding and badly bruised, said Whiskey’s owner and Tiverton resident Stacy Lebeau.

“She need emergency surgery before her intestines lacerated and she would have died,” she said.

Whiskey is Lebeau’s “absolute everything and more” and she would have been devastated to lose her furry companion.

Whiskey is currently recovering from her emergency surgery. She had her staples taken out last week and she is starting to act more like herself and eat on her own.

The total bill for Whiskey’s medical expenses came to over $3,000. “At the bare minimum, I need to raise the $2,000 to pay back the person that put it forward to save her life,” Lebeau said.

Lebeau says she is struggling financially after losing her job as a therapist. She is currently juggling four part-time jobs and works about 70 to 80 hours a week. Lebeau is reaching out to the public to help pay for Whiskey’s medical bills.

Lebeau said she raised about $950 and is hoping to raise a minimum of $2,000.

“This kitty is all I have left and needed to keep her with me,” she said.
