Tiverton Man Found Guilty Of Domestic Assault, Child Abuse

Jarid Ventura, 32, attacked both his girlfriend and her 11-month-old baby in July 2017, the attorney general's office said.

TIVERTON, RI — A Tiverton man was found guilty of child abuse and domestic assault, Attorney General Peter Neronha's office announced Monday. Jarid Ventura, 32, is being held in the Adult Correctional Institution pending his sentencing.

Ventura was found guilty on Tuesday of one count each of the following charges: second-degree child abuse, domestic assault, domestic vandalism and resisting arrest. The verdict was reached following a seven-day trial in Newport County Superior Court. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 10.

On July 9, 2017, Ventura hit his girlfriend's 11-month-old baby in the face. At the time, the couple lived together.

The next day, Ventura's girlfriend confronted him about the bruising on the baby's face. He then hit her in the face as well before breaking the windshield of her car. When Tiverton police arrived, Ventura resisted arrest, Neronha's office said.
