Tiverton Names New Schools Superintendent

TIVERTON, RI — The Tiverton School Department announced their selection for Superintendent of Schools at the School Committee Meeting on Tuesday night. Dr. Peter Sanchioni comes to Tiverton as the former superintendent in Natick, MA where he served in the same capacity for 10 years. Prior to that, he served as the superintendent in Millis, MA.

During his time in Natick, he initiated a 1:1 technology program for grades 8-12 and an iPad rotational/instructional program for kindergarten - 4. The use of technology combined with a strong commitment to teacher development is an important focus of Dr. Sanchioni’s vision for higher levels of student achievement. In 2014, Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE), the state's leading organization for educators with a passion for technology in education recognized Dr. Sanchioni as their administrator of the year. In addition, Dr. Sanchioni served as the co-chair of the Digital Learning Advisory Council for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and Chair of the Board for TEC Connections Academy (TECCA), Massachusetts’ premier virtual school.

Dr. Sanchioni serves as an adjunct professor at Boston University. He holds his undergrad and Ph.D. degrees from Boston College.

Tiverton School Committee’s Chairperson, Dr. Jerry Larkin said “The School Committee has been working for the last several months to identify our new superintendent with the assistance of consultant Dr. Joseph Erardi. Dr. Erardi was a tremendous help to us and did a great job. We were lucky to have a number of very qualified, wonderful candidates. I want to thank the Tiverton School Committee for all the hard work it did during this process. It was great that we were able to agree unanimously on the choice of Dr. Sanchioni as our new superintendent. We thank Mr. Rearick for all his many years of dedicated work with the children, families and school department staff of Tiverton.”

The hiring process included the community voice represented by over a dozen focus meetings and an online survey which was available to all stakeholders. Dr. Sanchioni will start the transition on June 25th, working with the current Superintendent, Mr. William Rearick who announced his retirement late last year.
