Tiverton Police are warning residents to be weary of door-to-door service workers after at least one resident was scammed.
A Tiverton resident notified police earlier this week after allegedly falling victim to a scam, according to Chief Thomas Blakey.
Although Blakey declined to give specific information as the incident is still under investigation, he did say residents should be weary of people or businessmen going door to door offering services. Blakey said anyone offering unsolicited landscape services, yard cleaning or driveway resealing services could be suspect.
"People should keep their guard up and be weary of these types of situations," said Blakey.
Blakey said residents could also put themselves at risk by allowing people to come inside their homes to use the bathroom. He sajd workers will also occasionally sneak into their homes while a colleague occupies the homeowner's attention.
"At this time of year people are more likely to have their doors unlocked and there are more chances to get scammed," Blakey said.
