TIVERTON, RI— Ahlborg Construction Corporation out of Warwick, RI contracted an environmental management company known as Vortex Inc. to conduct detailed air quality tests throughout Tiverton High School on Tuesday. After students reported itchy eyes and troubled breathing, it was determined that a mason cutting into brick work caused dust to be pulled in by the temporary heating unit.

Students later learned that school would be closed on Wednesday at the request of Superintendent, Dr. Peter Sanchioni, to allow the contractor to conduct further testing and to clean the building from top to bottom.

Officials on site and within the school department received the results of the testing conducted and the findings reported negative for any contaminates. The school is an estimated two weeks from completing a planned renovation that replaced the roof and heating system original to the decades old building.

Tiverton High School students returned to school on Thursday to a brand new, highly efficient system that will be used permanently. The temporary heaters have been removed off campus and are no longer needed now that the new boilers are fully functional.
