Tiverton Woman Charged With Stealing 71-Year-Old's Money

The theft allegedly happened at the Newport Grand back in October 2017, Newport police said.

NEWPORT, RI—A Tiverton woman has been accused of stealing a 71-year-old woman's purse at the Newport Grand. Denise Chouinard, 63, was charged with misdemeanor Larceny under $1,500. The victim told police she left her purse unattended, and it was stolen. She later found it in a garbage can in the woman's bathroom at the casino. But her money was missing.

The alleged theft happened Oct. 3, 2017 at 6:10 p.m. Based on an investigation, Newport police obtained an arrest warrant for Chouinard. Middletown police took her into custody on Wednesday at 1:32 p.m. She was turned over to Newport police and charged.
