AG Neronha IDs Pawtucket Officer Who Shot West Greenwich Man
Officer Daniel Dolan on June 23 fired his service gun while off-duty and hit a man in a black Audi in the parking lot of Wicked Good Pizza.

WEST GREENWICH, RI — The Office of Attorney General Peter Neronha today identified the Pawtucket police officer who shot a man in West Greenwich Wednesday night, and also provided further details about the incident.
Pawtucket Police Officer Daniel Dolan has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted by the Office of the Attorney General, the West Greenwich Police Department, and Rhode Island State Police, Neronha said in a news release.
On the evening of Wednesday, June 23, Officer Dolan, then off-duty, "discharged his service firearm, resulting in injury to a member of the public," Neronha said.

Dolan was traveling home from a detail assignment in Pawtucket when he encountered a black Audi sedan occupied by a driver and two passengers on I-95. Subsequently, in the parking lot of Wicked Good Pizza at 12 Nooseneck Hill Road in West Greenwich, Dolan attempted to detain the driver of the Audi, Neronha said.
"In the ensuing moments, the details of which remain under investigation, Officer Dolan discharged his firearm, striking the driver of the Audi in the arm. The driver was subsequently transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries," Neronha said.

The Pawtucket Police Department is aware of the investigation and has provided support to the investigative team, Neronha said. The makeup of the investigatory team is dictated by the AGO's use-of-force policy.
Pawtucket Police Chief and Acting Director of Public Safety Tina Goncalves issued a statement earlier today. She promised full cooperation and confirmed the officer involved had been placed on administrative leave.
The attorney general said no additional information will be disclosed at this time, and pledged a thorough investigation "while recognizing that transparency is critical to public confidence."
Neronha said as the investigation proceeds, additional information will be shared with the public as quickly as possible.
