The Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) has arrested a male suspect in connection with a hit and run incident from earlier this month.

55-year-old Rodney Pierce has been charged with Hit and Run with Great Bodily and Driving Under Suspension. 

Pierce is accused of driving along the 1200 block Bush River Road on June 13, 2021 and hitting a male pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk.

The 41-year-old victim suffered serious injuries including head trauma, broken bones, and other internal injuries. The victim has been released from a local hospital.

Pierce allegedly failed to render aid to the victim or call 9-1-1 to report the incident.

Evidence collected at the scene along with surveillance video led to Pierce’s arrest.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) assisted CPD with the investigation.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
