Demint Still Ruffling Republican Feathers at Heritage

Former senator has a different job, but he's still getting under the skin of fellow Republicans

Even when he was in Congress, former Sen. Jim DeMint rarely minced words when it came to criticizing his fellow colleagues for their lack of conservatism.

Now that he’s leading the Heritage Foundation and no longer has to worry about electoral politics, DeMint hasn’t curtailed his disparagements.

And, according to a story in Politico, that’s rubbing some members of Congress the wrong way.

DeMint and Heritage were instrumental in shooting down the Farm Bill via Heritage Action, the group’s political arm.

Some critics say DeMint's politicization of Heritage, a think tank founded in the 1970s, has been damaging to its reputation.

DeMint told Politico, ““Heritage and Heritage Action has gotten in the way of business as usual. And, it’s made people mad.”

The Politico story goes on to say that Heritage Action is part of larger effort by third-party groups to use “campaign-style” tactics to lobby lawmakers.
