Jenny Sanford Says She Sympathizes With Anthony Weiner's Wife

As the media took in the spectacle that was the Anthony Weiner press conference on Tuesday afternoon, more than one observer noted the role the disgraced former Congressman's wife played.

In a precedent-setting move, Huma Abedin, spoke at the press conference, saying that she supports her husband and has forgiven him.

Few women can understand what a wife in that circumstance is going through. But one of those women is South Carolina's former first lady Jenny Sanford who went through a similar public spectacle in June 2009 when her husband admitted to a extramarital affair with a woman in Argentina. Jenny Sanford, however, was not by her husband Mark's side when he confessed to his indiscretions.

Jenny Sanford was asked by The Washington Post on Wednesday for her thoughts on the situation. Among other things, she said of Abedin, "My heart goes out to her."
