Saint Leo University's Shaw Education Center to Host Open House
New Center Director, Who Resides in Columbia, Hails From Santee, Sumter Areas

SUMTER, SC – Saint Leo University’s Shaw Education Center will host an open house and introduce its new director on Monday, September 10. The open house will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Sumter Education Office location at Wise Drive Baptist Church, 2751 S. Wise Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
The university recently named Terrence D. Gilmore as director of the Shaw Education Center, which is based at Shaw Air Force Base, and the Sumter Education Office. Gilmore, a native of Santee, SC, relocated to the Sumter area as a teenager. He was a member of the first graduating class of Crestwood High School in 1997.
Gilmore earned a Bachelor of Science degree in child and family development from Benedict College in Columbia, SC, in 2002, and a Master of Science degree in management from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC, in 2008.

He has more than 10 years of experience working in higher education at several colleges and universities in South Carolina including Morris College (Sumter, SC); Claflin University (Orangeburg, SC); Limestone College (Gaffney, SC); and Webster University (Shaw AFB). Gilmore is a member of the Columbia (SC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He resides in Columbia, SC.

Degrees offered include: Associate of Arts; AA in business administration; AA in criminal justice; AA in liberal arts; Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice; BA in criminal justice-criminalistics; BA in criminal justice-homeland security; BA in human resource management; BA in human services; BA in business administration-management; BA in business administration-technology management; Bachelor of Science in computer information systems; and BS in health care management.
Registration is underway for the Fall 2 Semester, which begins October 15 and ends December 9. Spring 1 Semesters begins January 7, 2019.
The university is a proven leader in education for adult learners and offers flexible, convenient classes as well as affordable academic excellence. While Saint Leo is a Catholic university, it welcomes students from diverse backgrounds. Every course incorporates one of Saint Leo’s core values.
Evening classes make it easy for busy professionals or members of the military to further their education, Gilmore, the center director, said. “We offer the classes you need when you need them,” he said. Programs are flexible and degrees may be completed with a combination of on-ground and online courses. “We deliver strong academic programs, one-on-one attention, and support services for students.”
The university is made up of a diverse community of working parents, active-duty service members, military veterans, career changers, and first-generation college students, as well as traditional-age students.
Those interested in pursuing a degree and taking classes either at the education center or online are invited to the September 10 open house to review Saint Leo’s academic programs, meet with advisors, mingle with faculty, and get questions answered. Guests may bring their transcripts for an on-site application review; the application fee will be waived. Refreshments will be served and there will be drawings for door prizes.
