Biggest Issue Facing District 1:Â The size and scope of the federal government, and its intrusion into our lives.
King Solution:Â
I would work to identify and eliminate the endless levels of bureaucracy that exist in our federal government. I support a limited government based on what is written in the constitution, and would fight to protect the freedoms and liberties on which our country was founded.
2nd Biggest Issue Facing District 1: Excessive spending and our ever increasing debt.
King Solution:Â
We must cut spending, balance the budget, and begin to pay down the deficit that will cripple the economy of our children and grandchildren. Here are some specific examples of how to accomplish this:
- Eliminate the Department of Education, whose budget has grown from $35B in 2001 to $90B in 2012, and provide funding to the states in the form of a block grant. We are spending over $10k per year per public school student, yet our national test scores continue to decline.
- Eliminate the Department of Energy and the Department of Agriculture. The federal government should not be in the business of creating jobs or clean energy. We need to let the free market and private industry build our economy.
3rd Biggest Issue Facing District 1:Â Tax Reform.
King Solution:Â
I would work to implement a consumption based tax, like The Fair Tax. A consumption based tax would eliminate 90% of the IRS while simplifying required tax forms for individuals and businesses. The Fair Tax replaces federal income taxes, estate taxes, payroll taxes, and gift taxes. This tax model would also require illegal immigrants and those who are supplementing their income through illegal means to begin paying taxes, which is not the case with the current tax code.
Why are you the best person to represent District 1 in Washington, DC?
I have a unique ability to relate to the hard working middle class families of the 1st district. Like most people in the 1st district I am fed up with the direction that this country is heading, and have lost faith in our politicians' ability to get us back on track. If we are to expect real change in Washington, we need to change the way that we elect our representatives. The Republican Party is disjointed, and we are alienating an entire younger generation that feels it has no voice. As conservatives who believe in limited government, we have the right message and the right principles to get our country back on track, yet we are failing at reaching younger voters. As your congressman, I will ignite and energize young conservatives to get out and vote.
