Car Break-In Ring Busted: Franklin Police

Franklin Police arrested two members of an apparent auto burglary ring and expect to make more.

FRANKLIN, TN -- Franklin Police are in the midst of busting up what appears to be a fairly sophisticated auto burglary ring.

Officers working a special detail at a Moores Lane apartment complex around 2 a.m. May 27 saw a "carload of suspects," according to police. The driver of the car spun out and lost control as he tried to evade police, investigators say.

The officers were able to catch two of the four people in the car as they ran away.

Detectives believe that as many 12 cars were broken into. A handgun taken from one of the cars - which was unlocked - has not been found. Investigators say that a Nissan van drove as many as 10 people to Franklin, where they fanned out through the apartment complex to find unlocked cars to break into.

Michael Ulumenfo, 18, of Antioch, is charged with burglary, evading arrest, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A juvenile is charged with auto theft and evading arrest.

Police have identified two other juveniles alleged to have been in the car. They are being sought on multiple felony charges.
