Franklin Halves Main Street Free Parking Time
Franklin's city council reduced Main Street's maximum free parking time to two hours Tuesday.

FRANKLIN, TN -- Downtown Franklin visitors will have to move twice as quick after the city council halved the maximum free parking time on Main Street at its meeting Tuesday.
The limit - which will be enforced Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - is now two hours on Main between First and Seventh avenues.
The cut from from four to two hours was a recommendation included in a study from Volkert Engineering, which found there are 1,400 spaces in downtown Franklin with an average of 1,170 used during prime hours.

Though paid parking lots are increasing in downtown, people can still park for free on downtown streets - provided they can find a spot and they mind the limit - and in garages on Second and Fourth avenues, which have 300 spaces apiece.
