The annual Franklin On The Fourth on the square followed by the city's fireworks display highlight Independence Day. Here's what to know.

FRANKLIN, TN -- Independence Day is coming up fast and cities across the Midstate are gearing up for their annual fireworks displays and community gatherings.

Folks in Franklin who don't want to trek into Nashville for the massive Music City celebration can enjoy the annual Franklin on the Fourth on the square sponsored by the Lions Club and the city fireworks display at Harlinsdale.

When: July 4, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Historic Franklin Square.

Bluegrass, soul, country and pop music will sound from the stage all day. Food and craft vendors will fill the square. Antique cars will be on display on Main between the square and Fourth and the kids' zone on Third will include inflatables, ponies and a petting zoo.

The highly anticipated children's parade will begin lining up at 4:45 and kick off at 5 p.m. with costume and decorating prizes awarded.

The final music performance of the day will be preceded by the Old Glory Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution reading the Declaration of Independence, and the singing of the national anthem. Franklin on the Fourth ends at 8 p.m. to give attendees time to get to the city's fireworks display.

When: July 4, 6 to 10 p.m.

Where: The Park at Harlinsdale Farm.

Fireworks begin at dusk.
