Franklin MLK Holiday Weekend Events and Closures

Celebrate MLK Day in Franklin is a community celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. The event will be held at First Baptist Church of Nazarene, and will include a free screening of 'I Have A Dream,' as well as a follow up discussion panel. The event is open to people of all race, ethnicity and religion. After the program, participants will gather to march to the Historic Williamson County Court House on Public Square. 'Honor the Dream' - Martin Luther King Day is a commemorative event meant to unite communities to discuss and honor the late civil rights hero. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the MLK Commission hosting ' Honor the Dream.' Enjoy a free screening of Dr. King's 'I Have a Dream' speech and afterward listen to stories from people who've experience racism in America and participate in a panel discussion. YWCA Race Against Racism is a chance for people of different backgrounds in Middle Tennessee to come together and honor Dr. King. The race has two participation options so that people of different athletic ability can get involved. You can choose between a 5 mile run or a one mile walk. The event is a collaborative event hosted by the Franklin YWCA, the Knoxville YWCA and the MLK Commemorative Commission. Interested in participating? You can register for the race online.
