Franklin Tennessee's 8th Safest City: Report

With relatively low rates of property and violent crimes, Franklin is Tennessee's eighth safest city, according to a new report.

FRANKLIN, TN -- Franklin is Tennessee's eighth safest city, according to a newly released report, but only the second safest in Williamson County.

Franklin had 154 violent crimes and 1,085 property crimes in 2016, giving it a violent crime rate of 2.06 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 14.51 per 1,000, far below the state rates of 9.45 violent crimes per 1,000 population and 39.33 property crimes per 1,000.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security used the FBI's Uniform Crime Report statistics, giving more weight to violent crimes and then ranking cities with populations over 10,000.

Brentwood is Tennessee's safest city, according to the report, followed by Spring Hill.

Nashville, though 37th overall, is the safest city among Tennessee's Big Four metros.

Athens, in McMinn County, is Tennessee's least safe city according to the study.
