Franklin's Ben Zobrist Named World Series MVP, Hits Go-Ahead RBI in Historic Game 7 Win for the Chicago Cubs

Tenth-inning double from Ben Zobrist sets up Chicago's first world title since the Teddy Roosevelt administration.

CLEVELAND, OH — Franklin resident Ben Zobrist was named the Most Valuable Player of the World Series, as he hit a 10th-inning go-ahead RBI double in an epic Game 7 to set the Chicago Cubs up for a win against the Cleveland Indians and the team's first championship since 1908.

After Anthony Rizzo was intentionally walked, Zobrist came up with runners on first and second with one out in the 10th and laced a ball down the third-base line, scoring Albert Almora Jr. to put the Cubs up 7-6, after blowing a three-run lead with two outs and no one on in the bottom of the eighth. The Cubs extended the lead to 8-6 on a Miguel Montero single.

In the wild post-game celebrations, Zobrist, who lives in Franklin with his wife, Christian singer Julianna, was named MVP, earning himself a trophy and a new Chevrolet Camaro. Zobrist hit .357 in the seven-game series.
