Grant To Save Franklin Battlefield
A National Park Service grant will help protect a portion of the Franklin battlefield from development.

FRANKLIN, TN -- The National Park Service announced Thursday it is awarding a $637,500 grant to preserve a portion of the Civil War's Battle of Franklin battlefield increasingly threatened by development.
The NPS award will help the city, the American Battlefield Trust and non-profit Franklin's Charge purchase the less than acre on Columbia Avenue known as the Spivey Tract, which will ultimately be incorporated into the Carter Hill Battlefield Park.
The 20-acre battlefield park which surrounds the Carter House is managed by the Battle of Franklin Trust; the city will maintain the Spivey Tract and the previously acquired Lovell Tract.
