Independence High School Senior Killed In Franklin Bike Wreck
An Independence High School student died after a bicycle crash on a rural south Franklin road this week.

FRANKLIN, TN -- A little more than a week before her graduation, an Independence High School died after a bike wreck on a rural south Franklin road this week.
A pickup truck hit Megan Fitzgerald, an IHS senior, as she was cycling on Coleman Road May 9. Life-flight responded and the sheriff's office closed the road for hours after the wreck.

Fitzgerald captained the swim team and was planning to attend Southern Illinois University after her May 18 graduation.
"Megan Fitzgerald was the type of young lady who put others first," IHS principal Niki Patton told The Tennessean. "Not only was she an outstanding student-athlete and individual who exemplified the highest standard of academic and individual success, but above all, she was a great person who truly cared about others as demonstrated through her acts of kindness."
