On Friday night, Steven was arrested at our home following a verbal argument, and the police charged him with domestic assault. Although he said things he deeply regrets, he did not raise his hand at anyone during the incident, and the situation was purely emotional. We are working together as a family to make our relationships stronger, and we ask that you respect our privacy as we do so.

Wright is due to appear in court Dec. 21.

Wright faces an investigation from Major League Baseball under the league's domestic violence policy and could still be suspended even if the charges are dropped. Since it was enacted in September 2015, five players have been suspended under the league's domestic violence policy, serving suspensions of 15 to 82 games. Only one of those players was ultimately convicted and that player, Atlanta Braves Hector Olivera, served the 82-game suspension.

In a statement, the Red Sox said the team is aware of Wright's arrest and will have no comment during MLB's investigation.

Wright, a knuckleballer, went 13-6 with four complete games and a 3.33 ERA in 2016 when he was a member of the American League All-Star team. He made just five starts in 2017 after cartilage restoration surgery in his knee.
