Williamson County Schools To Make $67M Request

FRANKLIN, TN -- The Williamson County Board of Education voted Monday to make a $67 million capital projects request of the county commission.

The request is part of the district's plan to fund 10 new schools in the next five years and will go before the commission in March.

More than half of the $67 million - $35.62 million - is to purchase 550 acres of land for new school construction, with another $15 million for design and construction of a new elementary school in the central part of the county.

Other building upgrades and additions in the request include $6.8 million for auditoriums at Grassland and Sunset middle schools, $3.2 million for renovations at Fairview Middle and $1 million for design and construction of an addition to Independence High School. The district also wants $2 million for a sewer line on Henpeck Lane and to begin work on a new middle school there.

Another $2.06 million will find general asphalt and paving work with another $1.5 million earmarked for new school buses.
