Jennifer Robbins, 410th District Judge, was unable to attend the meeting, so County Judge Mark Keough presented the item to the commissioners. Keough said the Building Maintenance Department estimated the project will cost $10,576.
The commissioners unanimously passed a motion to fund the removal from the contingency fund.
Funding assigned for grant travel
A representative from the Montgomery County Veterans Treatment Court requested a funding source for $2,089.20 of travel expenses for three people to attend a National Association of Drug Court Professionals conference in Anaheim, California, and the court passed a motion to use the contingency fund.
The representative said that the expenses were supposed to be funded through a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission, which recommended attending the conference. Flights were booked in February 2020, but the conference was later canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Airline vouchers from the canceled flights will be used to attend the conference in August, but the representative said the Texas Veterans Commission will not allow them to use grant money because the travel won't occur within the grant's timeline.
Community Development Department restructure
The court approved a restructuring of the Community Development Department, closing three positions and replacing them with three new positions.
The plan will replace the position of construction coordinator with the title of construction administrator, which has an annual salary of $75,000. The position of grant coordinator will be replaced by a program coordinator position with an annual salary of $53,000. The plan also will close the director of community development position, and open the assistant director of community development, which has an annual salary of $82,000. These positions will be funded with Community Development Block Grant funds.
