Baseball: Montgomery County Matchups Headline Third Round
Grand Oaks and The Woodlands are vying for a spot in the regional semifinals, as are Montgomery and Lake Creek.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — All-Montgomery County matchups headline the third-round baseball playoff slate this weekend as Conroe ISD foes and Montgomery ISD rivals clash.
The Woodlands (25-9) will play a three-game series against Grand Oaks (25-9-1) at Humble High School beginning Thursday. The pair split their district matchups this season with the Highlanders claiming the first game 14-13 on April 6 and the Grizzlies returning the favor with a 3-2 win on April 24. Grand Oaks claimed the district title, but The Woodlands finished fourth just two games back in a tightly-contested race.
In 5A, Lake Creek (24-11-1) and Montgomery (18-12-2) are set for an intra-city clash with a three-game regional quarterfinal series at Sam Houston State. Lake Creek swept the season series with 7-6 and 10-4 wins in late March and early April under 20-5A's weekly series format. The Lions tied for the district title at 14-1 and won the top-seed tiebreaker game against Kingwood Park. The Bears finished fourth in the district at 8-6.
