Conroe Diving Club Headed To Nationals
Seven members of the Conroe Diving Club and age-group coach Nancy Vear competed in the 2018 USA Diving Zone “B” Championships held June 28-July 1 at the Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame pool in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. This Junior Olympic event was attended by 240 divers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Texas with the top 10 in each event advancing to the USA Diving national championships to be held July 29-August 4 at the 1996 Olympic pool in Atlanta, Georgia. This will mark the 15th year in a row the Conroe Diving Club has advanced divers to the USA Diving national championship event.

Three Conroe Diving Club members advanced to the national championship event with top honors going to Samantha Vear (16-18 girls) capturing the gold medal in the one meter event and finishing sixth in the three meter competition. Samantha performed the hardest list of optional dives in the one meter contest and earned gold by 34 points. She performed a reverse 2 ½ somersault with a degree of difficulty of 3.0 earning four 7’s and one 8 from the judges. This dive is currently the hardest dive being performed by any female diver in the world from the one meter. Jessica Moore (12-13 girls) captured a silver medal in the one meter event and finished fifth in the three meter event. Jessica’s silver medal earned her an automatic bid into the semi-finals at the national championships. Also qualifying for nationals was Mason Williams (16-18 boys) by finishing seventh on three meter and eighth in the one meter event. Other divers representing the Conroe Diving Club include Noelle Maisel (11&Under girls), Chloe Sharp (12-13 girls), Braden Moore (14-15 boys) and Gabe Hartmann (16-18 boys).
In addition to the USA Diving nationals the Conroe Diving Club has qualified 14 members for the AAU national championships to be held July 20-26 in San Antonio, TX and will be accompanied by head diving coach Bill Travis. This is the largest number of AAU national qualifiers in club history and for the first time 11 & Under, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18 age-groups will be represented at the national championships. The following divers are eligible to compete at the AAU nationals this Summer: Noelle Maisel (11 & U), Jessica Moore (12-13), Chloe Sharpe (12-13), Madelyn Monte (14-15), Riley Saye (14-15), Dieter Kingwergs (14-15), Braden Moore (14-15), Sophie Medico (16-17), Michelle Roberts (16-17), Samantha Vear (16-17), Gabe Hartmann (16-17), Zachary Pierce (16-17), Travis Saye (16-17) and Mason Williams (16-17).

The Conroe Diving Club is a year around diving program for children 6-18 interested in springboard and platform diving for all levels of diving from “learn to dive” to “Junior Olympic”. Classes are instructed by head coach Bill Travis and age-group coach Nancy Vear. Coach Bill is a three time national champion, four time NCAA All-American and three time USA Diving national team coach.
