Conroe FD Gets Fire Boat to Fight Boat Fires

The Conroe Fire Department recently put a new fire boat into service.

CONROE, TX — Life on the lake just got a whole lot safer. The Conroe Fire Department recently put a 28-foot fireboat into service.

The boat, a modified V-hull design with two 250-hp Honda engines, was manufactured by Lake Assault Boats. The vessel has a pumping capacity of 500 gpm and will be used to respond to incidents on Lake Conroe's 22,000 acres of water and 157 miles of shoreline.

The boat also features a landing craft style configuration with a hydraulically operated bow door that enables faster rescue operations. The craft also comes equipped with a T-top style cabin, with a lockable rollup back wall.

The electronics package of the department's new boat includes Garmin radar and sonar, with SideVu and DownVu, and a forward looking infrared system.

Prior to receiving the boat, department personnel had a three-day, on-the-water training class.
