Conroe ISD Reveals Possible Names for New Schools
Conroe ISD recently revealed the possible names for two new schools.

CONROE, TX — More than 140 suggested names for Conroe ISD's new high school and elementary school have been unveiled.
In a surprising turn of events, none of the names put forth was Schooly McShoolface, Harambe or any other internet meme or insult. Instead they are names that might actually appear on the side of a building somewhere.
The elementary school, currently known as Flex 17, got 72 suggestions while the high school drew 74. The Conroe ISD board expects to vote on the proposed names at its Sept. 20 meeting.

District policy requires that elementary schools be named after:
"geographical areas; prominent persons or public officials who have served the District or community with distinction; persons who have gained recognition in education or the arts; National or State heroes whose names lend prestige and status to an institution of learning and whose lives and achievements serve as positive role models for the students who will attend the particular school; and persons donating land or money for the facility."
An example is Neil A. Armstrong, which is why the district named Armstrong Elementary after him.
Conroe ISD requires that high schools be named after geographical areas, like Caney Creek.
The full list of suggestions can be found at the district's website; and they run the range from the uninspired, Grand North, to the predictable, Oak Creek. And then there are the truly eye catching ones, like Cesar Chavez and Trump both being recommended as names for the new high school.
Of course there are the suggestions that are a little bit problematic, such as Arian Foster, whose name came up as a suggestion for the new elementary school.
While Foster is a two-time NFL rushing touchdowns leader, he has also been accused of allegedly trying to pressure a woman he had ex marital sex with into having an abortion.
Then there is the whole being raised as a Muslim before becoming an atheist thing, wouldn't be a problem in Montrose but might be a problem for the God Fearing people of Montgomery County.
Foster isn't the only football luminary to appear in the list of names for the elementary school. JJ Watt and Jimmy Johnson were also recommended. Pro-wrestler John Cena and either deceased BMX rider or Portsmouth, England midfielder Kyle Bennett were also nominated.
The Kyle Bennett entry wasn't the only suggestion that could benefit from a little bit of clarification. The nomination for Billy Mitchell doesn't specify if the school would be named after Gen. Billy Mitchell, father of the U.S. Air Force, or Billy Mitchell the video game player.
In days gone by, one could assume that the Billy Mitchell being referred to was the general, but when pro-wrestlers are being recommended all bets are off.
