Conroe/Lake Conroe Leadership Award Nominations Due This Week

The ATHENA Leadership Award is presented annually to a woman for professional excellence, community service and helping other women.

CONROE, TX — The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations until June 11 for the 2021 ATHENA Leadership Award. The finalists for the fourth-annual award will be honored at a luncheon on July 30, where the winner will be announced, the chamber said.

According to a release, the award is presented to a woman for her professional excellence, community service that improves the quality of life of others in Conroe and the Montgomery County community and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.

The nominations, which are available online, will be sent to ATHENA International, where a committee will choose the finalists and recipient of the award.

Those submitting nomination are encouraged to work closely with their nominee on the form. It is okay to include supporting documents like articles and testimonials along with the nomination form.

The 2020 winner of the ATHENA Leadership Award was Dana Hoyt, who recently retired as president of Sam Houston State. Hoyt became the university's first female president in 2010 and led the Huntsville school during a period of unprecedented growth.

"Dr. Hoyt has led the university to new heights with boundless energy and enthusiasm -growing enrollment, adding state-of-the-art facilities and establishing the system's first medical school, among other accomplishments," said Brian McCall, chancellor of the Texas State University System.
