CONROE, TX — The City of Conroe is accepting public comments on the Old Conroe Road Widening and Extension project — a $120 million plan to widen and connect Old Conroe Road and Sgt. Ed Holcombe Boulevard between FM 1488 and Loop 336.

The project would take place over a 5.4-mile stretch and would include the construction of a mile-long, four-lane bridge of the West Fork San Jacinto River that would connect Old Conroe Road and Sgt. Ed Holcombe Boulevard, which would both be widened to four lanes. Construction is expected to start in 2024.

An estimate from LJA Engineering in a virtual meeting last week predicted a near three-fold increase in average daily traffic on Old Conroe Road by 2045. The firm estimated the project would save approximately 30 minutes of travel time between the two endpoints.
