Things To Do on Memorial Day 2021 in Montgomery County

Hit up Lake Conroe

If boating or an afternoon on the lake is your thing, head to Lake Conroe this Memorial Day weekend. Montgomery County's largest lake offer plenty to do such as picnicking, grilling, swimming, hiking and boating.
But before you head out, here's how to stay safe on the water:

  • Before you visit the lake, be familiar with the Texas Water Safety Act and Lake Conroe Rules and Regulations. The water safety act includes statewide rules regarding boater education, life jackets and boat operation. The Lake Conroe rules and regulations include limits on boat speed and noise levels.
  • Swim in designated areas. Look for signs that designate usage for swimming, fishing, boating or some combination of those activities. Swimmers should be aware the lake bottom can be uneven and can include debris or rocks.
  • Never swim alone.
  • Wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.
  • Swimming in a river, lake or pond always carries a risk of exposure. Unlike swimming pools, natural water bodies are not chlorinated or disinfected. People who enter the water do so at their own risk.

Designate a driver for watercraft who will not consume alcohol. It is unsafe to operate boats while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, just as it is to get behind the wheel of a car.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced that Memorial Day weekend will be the first of a summer-long weekend program called No Refusal Operations in an attempt to curb driving and boating under the influence. The program is an effort to streamline the warrant process for BWI/DWI suspects who refuse to take blood tests.

"Law enforcement work tirelessly to keep our roads and waterways safe from impaired drivers and operators," said James Andrews, vehicular crimes chief, in a statement. "We want everyone to enjoy Memorial Day weekend, but we want you to do it safely. Don't put yourself and others in danger by getting behind the wheel of a car, a boat or any vehicle impaired. Your life and the lives of everyone else on our roads and waterways aren't worth the risk."
