Montgomery County Judge Reinstated

The county judge of Montgomery County was reinstated.

CONROE, TX — County Judge Craig Doyal of Montgomery County was reinstated by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. The decision to reinstate Doyal was made a month after the same commission suspended him after he was indicted for violating the Texas Open Meetings Act.

The commission considered Doyal's indictment and testimony, as well as the argument of Doyal's lawyer and testimony of witnesses, and found that the judge had "met his burden."

Doyal's attorney, Rusty Hardin, argued that since the judge functions in an executive and not in a judicial capacity it was inappropriate for the commission to suspend Doyal. Hardin believed that Doyal's actions should be decided by the criminal process.
