New Conroe Park and Ride to be Completed in October

A new park and ride facility in Conroe should be completed in October.

CONROE, TX — A $1 million park and ride facility located under the I-45 overpass on F.M. 2854 is expected to open in October.

The project utilized a mix of state and local money, with $800,000 from the Texas Mobility Fund, and the city of Conroe ponying up the rest. The construction is being overseen by the Texas Department of Transportation.

When construction is complete, the city will turn the day-to-day operation of the facility over to a private contractor — which will also operate the park and ride bus service.

If the city's application is approved, the funds will come from an HGAC pilot program that uses Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds to pay for transportation projects that reduce congestion and improve air quality.

City personnel are waiting for the HGAC's approval before letting the contract out for bids or selecting the bus line's final route.
