Simone Biles Among Nominees For Texas Sports HOF 2022 Class
The decorated Olympic gymnast, who is a Spring native, is among 20 nominees for the 2022 class. Inductees will be voted on later this year.

WACO, TX — Four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles is among more than 30 nominees for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame picked by the organization's selection committee Wednesday, according to a report by The Waco Tribune-Herald.
Voting on the final inductees will be conducted later this year.
Biles, a Spring native, led the United States women's gymnastics team to a gold medal in the team competition at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and won individual golds in the all-around, vault and floor exercise events. She also claimed a bronze medal in the balance beam.

Biles is the most decorated gymnast in World Championship history with 25 medals, including 19 gold. She became the first African American to win the all-around title at the World Championships in 2013 at 16 years old.
There are several other Texas Sports Hall of Fame nominees for the Class of 2022 with ties to the Greater Houston area.

Christa Williams, who attended Dobie High School in Pasadena, was nominated for a stellar softball career in which she was named National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American three times as a pitcher, including twice at the University of Texas.
Houston Oilers stars Mike Renfro and Robert Brazile made the cut on the veterans ballot. Renfro was a three-time All-Southwest Conference receiver at TCU and played for the Oilers from 1978-'83. Brazile played outside linebacker for the Oilers from 1975-'84 and made six All-Pro teams, including twice on the first team. Brazile was named to the 1970s All-Decade Team and is a member of the Oilers/Titans Ring of Honor.
Joining Renfro and Brazile on the veterans ballot are Houston Astros all-stars Jimmy "The Toy Cannon" Wynn and J.R. Richards and St. Thomas High School alumnus Dave Marr, who won the PGA Championship and was named PGA Player of the Year in 1965.
Other notable athletes nominated include University of Texas football legend Colt McCoy, San Antonio Spurs greats Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili and three-time National League Cy Young winner and 2014 NL MVP Clayton Kershaw.
The inductions for the classes of 2020 and 2021 were delayed and will take place on Aug. 28 at The Base at Extraco Events Center. For more information on the awards banquet, go to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame website.
