State Golf: The Woodlands Boys Fourth In 6A Tournament
Alex Papayoanou shot 2-under par and finished seventh overall to lead the Highlanders at the UIL State Golf Championships.
GEORGETOWN, TX — The Woodlands' Alex Papayoanou carded a two-day score of 2-under 142 to tie for seventh and lead the Highlanders to a fourth-place finish at the UIL Class 6A Boys State Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Legacy Hills Golf Club.
Papayoanou shot a 2-under 70 in Monday's first round and followed that up with a 72 on Tuesday.
The Woodlands finished with a team score of 588, just one stroke short of a podium finish as Austin Vandegrift shot 587 for third. Austin Westlake's blue team won the state title with a team score of 568.

Rounding out the Highlanders' lineup were Alejandro Alonso (146), Will Jordan (148), Jake Lile (155) and Ben Paylor (155).
College Park's Bowen Ballis, who qualified as an individual, carded a two-round score of 144 to tie for 14th.

In 5A, Montgomery's Eyan Edsall tied for eighth, shooting 147 at Georgetown's White Wing Golf Club. The Bears placed 10th with a team score of 639. Rounding out Montgomery's lineup were Cason Holzshu (158), Juan Magallanes (166), James Gardner (169) and Hogan Choate (176).
Lake Creek's Brecken Franklin tied for 18th in the 5A tournament, shooting 149.
Splendora's Sammy Weldon competed as an individual in the 4A tournament, shooting a 122 over 27 holes at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.
