State Track: Lake Creek's Chance Niesner Wins Gold In Discus

With his state title, Niesner becomes the first Lake Creek athlete to medal at the UIL Track & Field Championships.

AUSTIN — Lake Creek's Chance Niesner notched a toss of 176 feet, 10 inches in the discus on his final throw, just enough to edge Friendswood's Alberto Orta for a Class 5A state title at the UIL State Track & Field Championships on Friday at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Niesner's final throw matched Orta's farthest toss, but the Lake Creek senior won the gold on a tiebreaker: his second-best throw (173-3) beat out Orta's (172-9).

Niesner is the first athlete in Lake Creek history to medal at the state meet.
