Texas Rep. Dan Huberty Addresses Alcohol Addiction After Arrest
The Houston lawmaker struck a vehicle and was arrested in Porter on April 23. He apologized on the House floor this week.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — State Rep. Dan Huberty apologized during a legislative session Monday following an April 23 crash that led to his arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to a report from The Texas Tribune.
Huberty, the Kingwood Republican who represents District 127, acknowledged an addiction to alcohol before his colleagues in the Texas Legislature and apologized to his family and those involved in the crash.
"I have had a problem with alcohol for my entire adult life," Huberty said in a video posted by KVUE. "While I have been sober for 23 of the last 30 years, it became clear to me in the last several months that I desperately needed help. I was embarrassed to ask and candidly did not know how to get the help that I needed."
