Washington Leads Montgomery County Athletes At State Track Meet

The College Park senior is chasing 3 medals at the UIL Track & Field Championships. See the list of 20 Montgomery Co. athletes competing.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — College Park senior sprinter Connor Washington, fresh off earning three gold medals at the Class 6A Region II track meet on April 24 in Waco, is aiming to repeat the feat at the UIL State Track & Field Championships this weekend at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

The event will be held Thursday through Saturday, with qualifiers from 5A and 6A teams in Montgomery County competing on Friday and Saturday.

Washington, one of 20 Montgomery County athletes set to compete in the meet, is the top seed in the 6A boys 200 meters with a qualifying time of 20.46 seconds. He also is the second seed in the 100 with a time of 10.20 seconds and anchored the top-seeded College Park 4x400 relay team to a time of 3:13.74 at the regional meet. Rounding out the relay team are Aidan Johnson, Marcus Scott and Joshua Ahasan.

The Woodlands also has a pair of top seeds in senior Joshua English, who ran 1:51.58 in the boys 800, and junior Turey Stoudemire, who cleared 6 feet, 8 inches in the boys high jump.

Conroe's Lilly Rodel and The Woodlands' Kennedy Doakes, both seniors, each qualified in multiple events. Rodel will compete in the girls discus and shot put, and Doakes will compete in girls high jump and triple jump.

In 5A, Lake Creek sophomore Carter Gordy qualified in both the boys 1,600 and 3,200. Gordy is the second seed in the 1,600 with a time of 4:16.23.

Class 5A will compete Friday with field events and the 3,200 beginning at 9 a.m. All other running events will start at 5 p.m.

Class 6A will follow the same time schedule on Saturday.

Limited spectators will be allowed in the facility, and all fans are required to wear face masks. It will cost $25 for all-day session tickets or $15 for one-session tickets for either 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or after 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here by credit card only.
