The Woodlands Claims 6A UIL Lone Star Cup

THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Woodlands finished with 111 points to claim the 2020-'21 Class 6A Lone Star Cup as the University Interscholastic League announced its final update Wednesday.

The Woodlands will receive a $1,000 scholarship as well as a trophy for winning the Lone Star Cup.

The UIL accounted for baseball, softball, FIRST Robotics, mariachi and academics in its final update. The update is one of five during the school year that tabulates points based on competition and playoff results in 22 events.

The Highlanders finished 12 points ahead of Southlake Carroll, which tallied 99 points. Austin Westlake (91), Flower Mound (75), Arlington Martin (74) and Katy Seven Lakes (74) rounded out the top five.

The Woodlands did well in the final update as the Highlanders reached the regional semifinals in softball and regional quarterfinals in baseball, and two of its robotics team advanced to state in the FIRST competition.

The Woodlands boys swimming and diving team won its first state championship since 2010 and ninth in team history in February, edging Kingwood 229-227. The girls followed suit, winning their 10th state title.

In May, the boys golf team placed fourth at state, while the girls were Region II-6A champions. The girls and boys track and field teams both finished 10th at the state meet.

Other high finishers for the Highlanders include the girls soccer team, which reached the state semifinals, and the volleyball team, which reached the regional semifinals.
