The Food for Fines Drive allows library users to substitute one can of food for each dollar they owe in late fees not to exceed $10.

Library Director Dauna Campbell says this is a great program that helps patrons reduce or erase any late fees they have while at the same time helping the local homeless shelter that feeds and beds hundreds if not thousands of people each year.”

The drive runs from November 1-24 and all donations will go to Loaves and Fishes. Only non-perishable items are accepted. No glass containers, repackaged, or expired food will be accepted.

People without fines can make a donation as well. Simply stop by the Harlingen Public Library located at 410 ‘76 Drive. The library is open Monday - Thursday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 -5 p.m.

Again, for those who do have library fines, the library will reduce $1 for every canned food donation with a maximum savings of up to $10. This program does not include fees incurred due to lost or damaged items.
